About Us

A PROJECT WILL STAND OR FALL BY THE CLARITY OF IT'S TECHNICAL DETAIL

WE ARE CHARTERED ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGISTS

IS AN ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST AN ARCHITECT?

The short answer is NO! Architectural Technologists have a different approach to design from an Architect, however the Royal Chartership MCIAT that we hold is the same level of chartership that chartered Architects can hold.

HOW ARE ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGISTS DIFFERENT?

We approach design as a science instead of an art form. The qualification is a BSc instead of a BA.

This means that we design from a problem solving approach. We do this by identifying as many constraints as possible and then work through solving them until we have a resolved design.

WHAT CONSTRAINTS ARE IDENTIFIED?

To mention a few (because the list can be extensive):

TECHNICAL DETAIL HELPS YOU THROUGH EVERY STAGE

We have worked on a huge variety of projects through the years. We offer this honed knowledge & problem solving ability to Home Owners as well as Commercial Clients by providing a design team as well as appointing and coordinating other consultants on your behalf to manage the design process to the final product.

1

Design Brief

We work with you to understand your initial ideas or concepts and then form feasibilities so we can then agree and “lock down” a Design Brief.

2

Planning

We take the Design Brief forward and form initial drawings and documents that are then used to gain Planning Permissions that may be required.

3

Technical

We take the Planning Level drawings & documents forward to form the Building Regulations information first and then add even more detail to form the Construction Level drawings & details.

4

Building

To reach a successful completion on your project we can help with vetting contractors, forming & invoking a formal contract and also then administering the contract. This also involves checking that works has been completed to allow you to release payment for the works. We also help gather all the information required to enable the final Completion Certificate from Building Control and any final retention payments to the Contractor.

Because we understand the Technical Detail from the outset, the design process is streamlined, the final solution is fully resolved, it fits your needs but also local authority requirements. Your project is cost effective and logistically realistic to build.

ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

WE OFFER ADDITIONAL SERVICES TO HELP WITH ASPECTS THAT COULD SLOW A PROJECT

WE ARE MEMBERS OF THE FPWS

Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors

It is true that a Partywall Surveyor does not need to have a formal qualification in the industry, but we have found that with a qualification comes a superior knowledge. That knowledge can give helpful insights on the nuances of the Party Wall etc ACT 1996. We have had advanced training in how the legislation should be applied and after having our portfolio assessed and passing the exam we have attained the accreditation MFPWS. We will work to find the most pragmatic solution to get the project moving, whilst at the same time ensuring that the legislation is being applied correctly.

WE RECOMMEND JCT STANDARD FORMS OF CONTRACT

Contract Administrators

The reason we recommend using a standard contract instead of just signing up to a contractor’s estimate, is that the project is then on your terms, you are in control of what you pay and when you pay, because part of setting up the contract will outline payment structure and tie it to the original estimate. As Contract Administrators we help you select the correct JCT contract and then ensure that it is filled out & invoked correctly. Once the contract is in place we then monitor the progress of the project and agree whether you should release funds or not depending on our analysis of what works have been carried out. We follow this process through to the end of the project, where we will let you know when you can release the final retention held back until works are completed correctly.

2015 CDM (CONSTRUCTION DESIGN & MANAGEMENT) REGULATIONS

Health & Safety Advisors

The 2015 CDM regulations place responsibilities on you as the Client to ensure that your project is run in a safe a manner as possible. This starts at the design stage and runs all the way through to maintenance of the building. We can help you fulfil your responsibilities as set out in the legislation and can also work as the “Principal Designer” as required under CDM.
